The Pittsburgh Panthers recorded their 10th victory of the season on Saturday against South Carolina State 69-55 at the Petersen Events Center.

Lamar Patterson led the way for the Panthers with 16 points and six rebounds. Ashton Gibbs tallied 14 points and six assists, Talib Zanna recorded a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds, Nasir Robinson scored eight points and six rebounds and J.J. Moore scored seven points.

Brandon Riley scored a game-high 21 points for the Bulldogs. Khalif Toombs chipped in with 16 points and Shaquil Barber added 12 points.

It remains to be seen how much freshman Khem Birch’s absence will hurt the Panthers. He recently left the team and will transfer.

His teammates, especially Dante Taylor, drastically improved their play ever since Birch was implemented into the starting lineup. Birch’s athleticism, rebounding, ability to block/alter shots and run the floor carried over to the Panthers.

Pitt returns to action on Tuesday when they host St. Francis (PA).
