You thought that maybe Pittsburgh was finally going to get on the board in the Big East Conference when they controlled their game against Marquette for many minutes of the game.
It didn’t work out that way.
The Panthers fell to 11-7 and 0-5 in the Big East after their 62-57 defeat on the road.
Even though it was a loss Pitt can use it as a moral victory. I know Jamie Dixon and moral victories don’t go together but this season is plenty different. Anytime you are winless in a conference you once dominated, some signs of improvement are crucial.
Ashton Gibbs played off the ball, something that he excels doing. Pitt moved Isaiah Epps to the point and used Gibbs off screens.
Epps’ assists numbers (two) weren’t great, but Gibbs excelled scoring 29 points. Pitt can hope for a Tray Woodall return before the Big East Tournament and just play their hearts out to win the tournament.
That seems like the only legitimate way they will make the NCAA Tournament.
